Poker has set itself up as the most popular family of card games in the world. It’s not hard to discover why, either, as there’s so much riding on every poker hand: and whether the stakes are low or high there’s nothing like the last-minute face off between two players looking to win the pot with powerful hands. Few card games are anywhere near as exciting, and luckily for poker enthusiasts there are plenty of poker games online to choose from.
Unfortunately for the easily confused, however, the game has also become regionalized. So rules that stand in one casino or site may not apply in another. Therefore when going to a new casino it’s best to find out the house rules in regards to the poker games being played. Regardless of where you go, however, there are some standard rules that are likely to apply to every casino or site, and most of these can be found in the strength and makeup of the hands.
Virtually all poker games use the same hands. They are, presented from weakest to strongest, high card, one pair, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, and that paragon of card playing glory, the royal flush. There aren’t many poker variants out there that don’t use these hands in one form or another.
All that said, some players don’t even need to rely on the strength of their hand. There are many expert bluffers in the poker world, and these players play their games extremely close to their chests. They can make their way through a hand and win the pot with nothing more than two pairs and yet as enigmatic as possible, forcing the other player to think that they have a hand as great as a royal flush. These are the players who write books and take casinos for all they’ve got on a regular basis. These are the true pros. And it’s highly recommended for beginner card players to seek the advice of these pros in the hopes of advancing themselves.
